In memory of our beloved Marine & Friend -
Ray Wallace
January 9, 1936 - January 27, 2011
Harry (Ray)
Raymond Wallace
Resident of Saratoga
1/9/36-1/27/11

Ray passed away after a long
struggle with emphysema. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Ray made his
mark through hard work and perseverance. He graduated with a Bachelor
of Science degree from Ohio State University and was commissioned a 2nd
Lt. with the USMC in 1958. Ray graduated with a MBA from U.C. Berkeley
in 1962 and was decommissioned from the Marine Corps in 1963 as a
Captain. He worked with McKinsey and Co. for 5 years before joining
Abbott Laboratories where he worked for 22 years. Ray loved the
challenge of managing divisions at Abbott and truly exemplified the
motto, “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.”
Most recently, he was active
with the Marine Corps League (San Jose Detachment 1122), BMW Car Club of
America (Golden Gate Chapter), and as a loyal member and a Deacon at the
Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church.
Ray is survived by his wife,
Beverly of 51 years; children Jeff (Sally) Wallace and Pam (Rick)
Ehrlich, and grandchildren Ian Wallace, Mitchell Ehrlich, and Carolyn
Ehrlich.
A memorial service will be held
at Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 12, at 1pm. He
will be interned at the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunnyvale Presbyterian
Church (Wilderness Ministry), 728 West Fremont Ave., Sunnyvale, CA 94087
or Hospice of the Valley,

From Richard Whitaker:
It is sad to hear of Ray's passing. He will be missed by all of
us from the detachment. When I first joined the detachment, Ray
was one of the first Marines I bonded with. He was a pillar in
the community with great moral character at a time when the rest
of world is in turmoil. His Christian values and his Marine
Corps values will be severely missed down here but I am sure Ray
his been selected for the Honor Guard in Heaven.
Semper Fidelis Ray, Dick Whitaker |

From
Pam Wallace Ehrlich, Ray's Daughter:
My father,
Ray Wallace, passed away last Thursday night after his long
battle with emphysema. He had provided your email addresses so
that you could be notified after his death. He peacefully
passed away while my mother and I were with him, without any of
the caregivers who had become a necessity in the recent months.
As you may know, he had been on hospice for over three months
and was still a Marine to the end, lasting much longer than
doctor’s had predicted. My dad really enjoyed the opportunities
the Marine Corps League gave him and would want you to know it
was an important outlet in his life.

From Denny Weisgerber:
Ray Wallace, you are a Marine’s
Marine. It is tough for me to see you sent to that Great Parade
Deck in the sky, but when the Man calls, we are always “First to
go”. I know that those Marines there at the Gates are awaiting
your reporting in. Say hello to my friends, you know the one’s,
John Basilone, Dan Daley, “Chesty”, those are the famous. But I
know you’ll be seeing all of my Marine buddies who are up there.
You can have them save a good billet for me.
Ray we will
miss you and your great leadership at MCL, but I know, you were
transferred and that takes priority.
Ray Wallace, a
Marine, I could always count on to be at my side in full support
and always had the best interests of the Marine Corps, The
Marine Corps League, and fellow veterans at heart. A true
Warrior and a true friend. Keep the decks clean and clear for
the rest of us as we wait our turn to join you again.
As always,
remember these original words from the Marines Hymn, as they
surely apply to you, sir.
ADMIRATION OF
THE NATION
WE’RE THE FINEST EVER SEEN,
AND WE GLORY IN THE TITLE
UNITED STATES MARINE.
Semper Fi, my
friend,
W. Denny
Weisgerber, S/Sgt USMC(Ret)

From Kevin Kimma: It is with great sadness that I
learned of Ray's passing. I still remember, and shall always
remember the kind manner and great spirit that Ray embodied. Ray
was always kind and volunteered to our Marine Corps League
efforts. Ray was a great Marine and friend. You can see in the
pictures above how much Ray loved to be with his fellow Marines
and what great joy he felt when with us. God bless Ray and his
family. Semper Fidelis Ray. We miss you...Kevin
