Hello Detachment #1122,Well, I can finally exhale... AJ and the Third Battalion Fifth Marines arrived at Camp Pendleton last week. George and I drove AJ's new 2005 Tacoma truck (he bought- mom made the deal) down and spent 10 days seeing the 1300+ Marines come in over the week. It was the most emotional experience I have ever felt! They came into Camp Talega ( the old OLD OLD Quonset Hut barracks) and will be there until June when they move into newer barracks. George and I decorated the base along with other 3/5 Families, and handed our cell phones over to the young Marines that did not have family there and told them to call home , or call their girlfriends! I even got to hug Lt. Col Malay who is their commander. Special thanks to all Marine Corp Members who purchased the Note Cards I designed...... we were able to purchase $3,000.00 of Hollywood Movie Money so 425 Marines got a movie ticket plus bags of goodies and certificates for Walmart, Target, and In and Out Burgers! The Hollywood company even specially designed the tickets for the guys to welcome them home and put their unit logo on the tickets. AJ will be on leave, and will be in town in May. I attached some photos of the homecoming for you to share with the group. Let me know when the May meeting will be so we can make plans for AJ to make a visit.
